The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 is one of the best budget fitness trackers out there and is our preferred choice for less-than-100$ fitness bands. Knowing that it’s not a surprise that a new version is already in the works. The Huami founder and chairman confirmed this for us on the Huami 2019 Q2 earnings call. He stated:
“We are actually developing Mi Band 5 with Xiaomi“.
Back in June, when the Mi Band 4 hit the stores, it sold 1 million devices in just 8 days. Despite its affordable price, it added new features like better, color touchscreen and better music control. You can find the full review, we did on the device from the link above.
This leads to the next big question. What could Xiaomi Mi Band 5 improve on?
According to insiders we will not see drastic changes in the design or feature set. However we are expecting a tweaked display, that will have rectangular shape, with round corners.
The two main features that are expected to come with the new model are improved NFC support and better heart rate monitoring. There is no confirmation, but we expect that Mi Band 5 will feature ECG support.
Last but not least – The Xiaomi Mi Band 4 featured NFC only for devices sold in China. With the new product we definitely expect to see this feature for all devices. The Xiaomi has patents, allowing it to include support for all kinds of cards : credit cards, bus cars or even work pass.
Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Release Date?
hen could we expect it? Mi Band 3 launched in May 2018, while Mi Band 4 launched in June 2018. Knowing this we expect it to hit market June/July 2020. Once they do, we will look into it and do a detailed review.
