The eufy Smart Lock E30 stands out in the budget aisle for two reasons: it has built-in Wi-Fi plus Matter support at a price most rivals can't match, and it's genuinely handsome where cheap locks usually look like appliances. For around $180 that's a strong pitch. There's one soft spot that keeps it from the top of the budget pile, and it's the sensor you'd most want to rely on.

Why does Matter matter here?

Because it's rare this cheap. Most budget locks are Bluetooth islands or need a proprietary bridge. The E30 has 2.4GHz Wi-Fi on board and, paired with a Matter hub, joins Apple Home, Google, Alexa, and SmartThings natively. That means remote unlocking, status checks, and automations without picking an ecosystem. Pairing was occasionally temperamental depending on the hub during my setup, so patience helps, but the payoff is a future-proof budget lock.

Unfortunately, yes. The sensor sits vertically above the keypad, which is awkward to hit cleanly, and in testing it failed roughly as often as it succeeded. It's the one part of the E30 that feels its price. You'll fall back on the keypad more than you'd like. Everything else is a step above budget: eight AA batteries last around eight months, the escutcheon looks great on the door, and every entry method is included with no subscription.

Specs, Pros & the Bottom Line

Budget Matter lock with a handsome face

  • Our Rating: 4.1 / 5.0
  • Price: $180
  • Install: Deadbolt replacement
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi + Matter (via hub)
  • Apple Home Key: No
  • Battery life: ~8 months (8 AA)
  • Entry methods: Fingerprint, code, app, key, voice
  • Matter: Yes (via hub)

Pros

  • Built-in Wi-Fi plus Matter support (via a hub) at a budget price
  • One of the better-looking escutcheons on any budget lock
  • Fingerprint, code, app, key and voice all included, no subscription

Cons

  • The vertical fingerprint reader is awkward and missed as often as it hit
  • Matter pairing was flaky with some hubs during setup
  • Eight AA batteries is a lot to feed
  • No Apple Home Key

The fingerprint reader is the weak link, and it's a real one. Mounted vertically, it failed about as often as it worked for me, so you'll lean on the keypad more than you'd like. That aside, the E30 punches above $180. It's the rare budget lock with both built-in Wi-Fi and Matter support, it's genuinely handsome on the door where most cheap locks look like appliances, and it bundles every entry method with no subscription. Matter pairing can be temperamental depending on your hub. Buy it if you want Matter and good looks on a budget and can live with a so-so fingerprint sensor. If the reader is a dealbreaker, the Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro has a far better one.

What to buy instead

If a dependable fingerprint reader is non-negotiable, the Ultraloq U-Bolt Pro has a far better one for a similar price. Want the cheapest way to go smart while keeping your keys? The retrofit SwitchBot Lock Pro is $100.

The verdict

The eufy Smart Lock E30 is the budget pick for people who want Matter and good looks and can live with a mediocre fingerprint sensor. On the keypad and app it's a lovely, future-proof lock for the money. Just don't buy it for the fingerprint reader. Buy it despite that, for everything around it.
